A Different view of Maui

A Different view of Maui

We’ve been here a week tomorrow. It has been a mostly relaxing vacation highlighted by our friends making each day a little more memorable.
Today was exceptionally delightfull when we took a trip up country to visit a friend of a friend who is now the executive chef at Kula Lodge in, well, Kula. It’s on the way to Haleakala. So if you head up or down from that lovely look out, stop by. The food was absolutely unbelievable! The service was exceptional and the views incredible.
This particular picture was taken just before sunset. I was facing west and there is a large amount of cloud cover as well as Vog, so the tree looks almost winterish against the background of filtered sun shining down on the ocean in the background. Not what one would expect of Maui. I think that’s why I like it so much.
After three trips here, I am just now beginning to understand what they mean by “Magical Maui”. It is an absolutely gorgeous land!

Christopher Cross versus Jimmy Buffet versus The Beach Boys.

“All caught up in the revery. Every word is a symphony, when I am sailing……”
versus
” I heard about the old time sailor men, they’d eat the same thing again and again. Warm beer and bread, they said would raise the dead but it reminds me of a menu at a Holiday Inn….”
versus
“I sail an ocean, through restful waters and deep commotion…” (Beach Boys)

Some of my favorite memories along this stretch of beach at Crystal Cove. T&D on their trip here from Kona. Me and my husband. And memories of just me running along the cliffs on the topside of the cove. Great little restaurant there too!

East side of Trail 100 @ 40th St. Totally did not see this one hit me! Nice flat stretch too! Oh, my NATIVE eyewear took the blow instead of my right eye. Still ended up with a concussion though. Oh, and some sutures.

#2 Trail 100 again, 90 min into a 2hour run. No head trauma this time. But lots of gorgeous firemen involved!

Somewhere along Coach Whip Trail in the McDowell Mtn’s/Pemberton. 10 miles into a 15 mile race a piece of dust blew up under the toe of my shoe and BAM! Me and mother earth were again, one. That was the end of trail running for me, and ultimately brought me to the crossroads of today. No running in my immediate or possibly EVER future. I’m thinking just immediate…..
